Why it matters
In January 2025, the US Copyright Office said that work made only by AI has no copyright. Only the parts a person made are protected. So if a freelancer hands over AI-made work without saying so, you may not own what you paid for.
How it usually reads
Contractor will tell Client which parts were made with AI and will not upload Client files to tools that train on them.
What fair looks like
- The person delivering the work lists the AI tools used and which parts they produced.
- No client footage or confidential material uploaded to AI tools that train on user data.
- A promise that the human-made parts are original.
Common questions
Can I still use AI tools in client work?
Yes. This clause asks for transparency, not a ban, so the client knows what it owns.
