Why it matters
The US Copyright Office concluded in January 2025 that purely AI-generated material is not protected by copyright. Only the human creative contribution is. If a contractor delivers AI-generated parts without saying so, the buyer may not own what it thinks it bought.
How it usually reads
Contractor will tell Client which parts of the work were generated with AI tools and will not upload Client materials to tools that train on user content.
What fair looks like
- The person delivering the work lists the AI tools used and which parts they produced.
- No client footage or confidential material uploaded to AI tools that train on user data.
- A promise that the human-made parts are original.
Common questions
Can I still use AI tools in client work?
Yes. This clause asks for transparency, not a ban, so the client knows what it owns.
